Lexia Reading offers flexible implementation as part of a tiered model of instruction.

  • Lexia Reading is appropriate for all students in all tiers Pre-K to grade 4.

  • In grade 5 or above, Lexia Reading is an effective remediation tool for students in Tier II and Tier III.

  • An RTI model of instruction is extremely easy to implement using Lexia’s Auto Placement tool, which immediately places new students into the appropriate Lexia Reading level.

Lexia Reading can be used effectively in all 3 tiers of instruction:

Students in all tiers should use Lexia Reading for 20 – 30 minute sessions and vary frequency depending on their tier. Here’s how:

  1. Tier I (Instruction for students on or above-level)

    1. Early Reading can be started and completed in Kindergarten.

    2. Primary Reading can be used in Kindergarten through grade 3 after mastery* of the skills presented in Early Reading.

    3. Strategies for Older Students

      1. Used in grades 2 and 3 after completing Primary Reading (start at Level 3).

      2. Used in grade 4 and above as additional enrichment (Levels 4 & 5).

  2. Tier II (Instruction for students that are at-risk)

    1. Early Reading can be used in Kindergarten and grade 1.

    2. Primary Reading can be used in Kindergarten through grade 4 after mastery* of the skills presented in Early Reading.

    3. Strategies for Older Students

      1. Used in grade 3 after completing Primary Reading (start at Level 3).

      2. Used in grade 4 and above as an intervention (start Levels 1 – 3 based on ability).

  3. Tier III (Instruction for students with identified learning disabilities)

    1. Early Reading can be used in Kindergarten through grade 2.

    2. Primary reading can be used in grade 1 through grade 5 after mastery* of the skills presented in Early Reading.

    3. Strategies for Older Students

      1. Used in grade 4 or 5 after completing Primary Reading (start Level 3).

      2. Used in grade 5 and above as intensive remediation (start Level 1).

*Mastery meaning completion of levels 1 & 2 of Early Reading or demonstrating appropriate use and application of the skills presented in Early Reading.
